Low-dose CT lung screening
Pascack Valley Medical Center is encouraging all partners to prioritize low-dose CT lung screenings and identify at-risk patients. Our LDCT screening and lung nodule program is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary platform focused on early-stage cancer detection.
Our primary goal is to provide patients at risk for developing lung cancer with LDCT screenings and individualized, evidence-based care management. Our team includes lung nodule coordinators dedicated to ensuring patients receive effective and compassionate care as well as continued long-term support.
Who qualifies for LDCT?
- Current smokers or people who have quit smoking in the past 15 years
- Current smokers and former smokers with a 20 pack-year smoking history (for example, smoking one pack of cigarettes a day for 20 years or two packs a day for 10 years)
- People who are in fairly good health
- People with no known symptoms of lung cancer
- Patients who have talked with a provider about lung screening
If you qualify for an LDCT screening or have received a referral from a primary care provider, please call 201-261-0821 to book an appointment.
Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
EBUS bronchoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps doctors diagnose lung problems such as infections, inflammation or possible cancer. During this procedure, a pulmonologist guides a thin, flexible scope into your airway via the mouth. The scope has a tiny camera that allows your doctor to view your lungs and nearby lymph nodes. Your doctor may take small tissue samples if needed.
Before the procedure, you may need bloodwork or be asked not to eat or drink after midnight. On the day of your endobronchial ultrasound, you’ll receive medication through an IV to help you relax or fall asleep. While you’re comfortable, your doctor will perform the exam and collect any necessary samples.
Most patients go home the same day after a short recovery period, but you may need someone to drive you. Patients may experience mild coughing or a sore throat afterward, but these symptoms usually improve quickly. Your biopsy results will be ready in a few days, and your provider will review findings and discuss your next steps.
Lung Nodule Detection and Coordination
Our team works collaboratively with you and your pulmonary medicine team to improve access to care with early intervention.
Using innovative Eon AI technology, our specialists detect suspicious lung nodules by analyzing CT exams for nodules that could represent malignancy. Patients with incidental nodules found on any CT exam may be referred for further testing by our lung nodule coordinator.
