Robotic Surgery in Westwood, NJ

At Pascack Valley Medical Center, our doctors pair expert surgical care with leading-edge technology to bring you personalized robotic surgery treatments that work. Our surgery unit is home to the Mako Robotic Arm, and we are also the first hospital in New Jersey to offer the Senhance® Surgical System. In addition, we proudly use the Da Vinci System — a high-tech, minimally invasive robotic system that aids our doctors in the operating room. Minimally invasive surgery offers patients faster recoveries, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stays so you can return home and get back to doing the things you love.

About the Mako Robotic Arm

The Mako Robotic Arm is a machine that aids surgeons when performing total knee, total hip, and partial knee replacement surgeries. This robotic-arm assisted surgery machine uses 3D computerized technology (CT) planning, AccuStop haptic technology, and insightful data analytics to ensure excellent outcomes for minimally invasive procedures.

Through CT-based 3D modeling of a patient’s bone anatomy, surgeons can create a personalized surgical plan and identify the correct implant size, orientation and alignment for each patient’s unique anatomy. The Mako arm also enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan during operation, as well as assist surgeons in executing bone resections.

About the Senhance® Surgical System

Our surgeons use the Senhance® Surgical System for weight loss surgery treatments. This system is a robotically-assisted surgical device (RASD) that allows surgeons to sit at a console unit fitted with high-definition, 3D viewing capabilities and perform your surgery by controlling three separate robotic arms. These robotic arms lend the surgeon even more enhanced precision and an unprecedented level of control. The system helps to monitor and limit excess forces generated during surgery.

During surgery, the Senhance® System will guide a small, remote camera into the patient’s body, which tracks the surgeon’s eye movements on a 3D display. Our goal with machinizing surgery is to provide our surgeons with state-of-the-art tools that offer them both complete control and the ability to make smaller incisions. The Senhance® System includes a 3mm-diameter instrument that minimizes scarring to an almost undetectable level.

About the Da Vinci Surgical System

The Da Vinci System is a robotic surgical platform designed to enable complex procedures of all types to be performed through tiny incisions. This system is used for a variety of surgeries, including general, bariatric, gynecological, and urologic procedures. Using the Da Vinci Surgical Conditions we can treat conditions like hernias, ovarian cysts, and obesity.

When a surgeon uses the Da Vinci System, their movements are replicated by the system in real-time. The system cannot be programmed, nor can it move on its own without the surgeon’s input. Put simply, the surgeon is in control of the machine 100% of the time, and the system cannot operate without the surgeon.
